Hemos definido e identificado las lenguas usko-mediterráneas. Las lenguas vivas actuales pertenecientes al grupo son el vasco, las caucásicas (checheno, armenio, georgiano, etc) y el bereber, muy modificado por la influencia árabe. Existen, además, lenguas muertas del mismo grupo: el etrusco, el ibérico-tartésico, el guanche, el lineal A cretense, el egipcio antiguo-jeroglífico, y otras de Oriente Próximo (hitita, eblita, elamita y sumerio).
