Los contactos con la madre existen ya de muchos modos en el estado prenatal, de manera que la aceptación o el rechazo consciente o no del niño en formación adquieren un significado nada despreciable. En esta fase se desarrolla ya el narcisismo primario que, como es sabido desde los inicios del psicoanálisis, es la fuente básica de toda relación amorosa. Si este narcisismo es perturbado en el periodo prenatal o en el posterior, todos los mecanismos sociales subsiguientes se desquician.
